- Collaborate with facility personnel on coordinating railcar movements
- Assist with lining switches, coupling/uncoupling railcars, connecting/disconnecting air hoses, applying/release handbrakes
- Inspect locomotives before each tour of duty
- Perform periodic locomotive maintenance, including adding/changing engine oil, sand and water, lubricating bearings, inspecting/replacing worn electric motor brushes within locomotive, changing filters
- Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, record findings, and estimate repair costs, or perform basic repairs
- Perform track repair/maintenance work, including replacing ties, rails, bolts, spikes, and ballast
