  • The research focus of the laboratory is on the assembly and morphogenesis of herpesviruses. Current projects involve use of biochemical and biophysical methods to analyze protein-protein interactions and structural features of the interactive domains. Using recombinant baculovirus technology to produce virus-like particles for structural studies and proteomic analysis. Creating recombinant viruses tagged with fluorescent reporters (GFP) to visualize in real-time virus particle movement within cells and in neurons. New projects also focus on development of protein microarrays using a virion display method for human transmembrane proteins. In addition, in conjunction with the Synthetic Biology team at JCVI we are proposing to assemble the large genomes of herpesviruses using synthetic genomics. Use molecular biology methods (cloning, PCR assays, and mutagenesis), cell culture methods (transfections, virus infections, cell line maintenance), biochemical procedures (protein electrophoresis, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, protein purification, protein microarray, immunofluorescence), recombinant herpesvirus and baculovirus generation. Maintains accurate and current data records. Organizes and records plasmid constructs and stocks made as part of project. Maintains record of freezer stocks as well. Duties may also include ordering supplies and general laboratory maintenance
  • Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting and entering data; manipulating, interpreting and/or presenting results; preparing charts and graphs for presentations and publications.
